Derek Marcotte

Director of IT, Security and Architecture

Left ChevronBack to team

From an early age, Derek Marcotte has been fascinated by how technology works. The first book he remembers checking out from the library was on how video games work. As this curiosity continued, Marcotte started to build computers in his teen years and developed his first commercial software application by 21.

Today, he uses that same curiosity to align technology with service as ExperiencePoint’s Director of IT, Security and Architecture. In his role, Marcotte serves as the company’s main point of contact for IT and data protection-related planning, strategy and questions.

Having always dreamt of a career in technology, Marcotte began his professional journey in 2000 at the Diamond Institute of Business & Computer Technology, where he ascertained a Computer Programming & Analyst Diploma. He later attended Trent University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Computer Science and graduated with honors.

It was in 2014 that Marcotte crossed paths with ExperiencePoint’s co-founder, James Chisholm, in a Toronto-based user group. Marcotte quickly connected with ExperiencePoint’s human-centered perspective and subsequently joined the company as a systems administrator. Since then, Marcotte has proven himself a crucial member of the team, who strives to help the business find its strategic direction in technology and navigate the data compliance landscape.

As a loving husband and father of four, growth has always been a key theme in Marcotte’s personal and professional life. A long-time Ultimate Frisbee player and weightlifter, he enjoys being pushed outside his comfort zones and learning new skills. Marcotte’s favorite aspect of working at ExperiencePoint is working with people who strive to put their best work forward. Always ready to pivot, Marcotte helps the team define and build their DevOps culture. He looks forward to a future where ExpereincePoint’s framework is embedded into everyday workflows around the world.
