


A skill-building workshop on the essentials of human-centered design and customer-centricity
Overview
You know you need to innovate to thrive in today's world. You also know that empowered employees are the key to your success. Maybe you have a vision for change and a core team in place to support it, but need help building innovation into your day to day process. Experience Innovation Learn is ideal for teams that need to understand how to apply the tools of innovation to real projects. In just four hours, this one of a kind simulation guides participants through the essentials of a four month innovation project. Our holistic approach provides a structured method and a safe space to practice the fundamental of human centered design. Teams at any level within any industry will learn new skills to sustain change in their daily work and be able to stay new skills with the support from the post workshop design toolkit. Experience and learn is structured around the six steps of the design thinking process for clear, action oriented learning. Participants solve a realistic client problem in a simulated case. They explore user needs and build informed connections that offer deep empathy into the user's lives. Each section begins with a brief overview explained by the facilitator followed by a few minutes of silent review for participants processed instructions provided into team kits. Then a video, and finally a time staged activity. The facilitator checks in regularly with all teams to offer reminders and moderate while the teams self direct their way through the exercises. We begin by understanding how to frame a question using human centered design principles. This helps our participants step back, see the big picture, and follow a process that may clear how to identify and solve for the right problem. Next, the participants gather inspiration that motivates them to see past people say they need and connect how they actually behave and feel uncovering the user's true needs. Now armed with observations from their users for participants synthesize for action and create insights out of real information. This focuses their strategy on user needs and real learnings rather than simplistic assumptions. EMPowered by IDOs set of seven rules for brainstorming, teams move past obvious and safe solutions to generate bold and innovative ideas. Then they make their ideas tangible by quickly building inexpensive and rough prototypes to think through all the possibilities of their top ideas. Finally, they test to learn to realize how their users will interact with one key aspect of their idea. This quickly helps them learn what resonates with the users and how to evolve their ideas. It saves money and proves what works and what needs more thought.
